A total of 584 pairs of hands worked together on Friday 19 August at Kata Beach in Phuket's attempt to set the world record for the most people simultaneously performing Thai massage. The current record stands at 232 pairs, set on March 20 last year by Tourism Victoria Australia. Phuket's attempt was more than double the record, but the digits have their own special meaning. There were 584 pairs because they wanted to use the first digit, 5, as it is the birthday on December 5 of His Majesty The King, while the two last digits, 84, will be the age of His Majesty this year 2011.
